At halftime, No. 7 Villanova trails DePaul 37-31. Here are some observations from the first half.
-The Creighton game must have rewaken something in Darrun Hilliard. He's playing up to the level which Villanova needs him going forward, especially offensively, because for my money he's the best offensive threat on the team, and I think many would agree with me on that.
-HOW DOES DEPAUL KEEP DOING THIS?!?! I honestly don't know what it is about Allstate Arena in which the Blue Demons just play out of their mind. I wouldn't consider DePaul's home court exactly a "tough place to play" so the fact that it's been so tough for teams to win there is absolutely mind-boggling.
-God Billy Garrett Jr. is an absolute stud. He holds this Blue Demon team together and honestly, to me, without them DePaul would've already crumbled into nonexistence at this point in time.
-There must be some sort of rule where DePaul just cannot miss from beyond 3-point range at home. Once again, the Blue Demons are shooting extremely well from long range, 50 percent so far, and that's been the difference in this half so far, because once again Villanova cannot seem to convert from beyond the arc.
-If I'm Jay Wright, the main message I'm giving to my players is the fact that they need to continue to get to the charity stripe. 12 free throws so far, and usually, that's a great option for a team that's down and on the ropes away from home
