The St. John's Red Storm netted a commitment from 6-foot-9 forward Amar Alibegovic on Wednesday afternoon. The news was first reported by SNY's Adam Zagoria and was later confirmed by the program's Twitter account.
Alibegovic is a member of the Class of 2014 and St. John's has been heavily pursuing the prized forward from Bosnia for many months. So much so that head coach Steve Lavin went to Bosnia to see Alibegovic play in July, which seems to have done the trick to obtain his services for this coming season. As our friends at Rumble in the Garden noted, all that's really left is to see if any eligibility issues persist with the 6-foot-9 forward, and if not, he should be able to step in right away and make an impact down low.
Amar averaged 6.8 points and 3.5 rebounds while playing with the Bosnia and Herzegovina Under-20 national team this summer.
