Of all the nonconference games DePaul Blue Demons has scheduled in 2014, it is no secret that the Stanford Cardinal will be the Blue Demons' tallest order. Stanford put together a remarkable run last March edging New Mexico and powerhouse Kansas to appear in the Sweet 16, only to be halted by Dayton's Cinderella run. Stanford’s leading scorer, senior Chasson Randle returns after a monster breakout year averaging 18.8 points a game. The tenacity of the Blue Demons defense will be tested as Randle is known for scoring all over the court.

The question still remains though: can DePaul claim early nonconference wins to carry over self-confidence into Big East Conference play? Flashing back to December of last year, DePaul beat northern neighbor Northwestern in a thriller by the tune of 57-56, a few days before beginning conference play against Georgetown on New Year's Eve. Northwestern was currently on a three game winning streak at home and were playing their best basketball of their nonconference season, and DePaul was able to play their first complete basketball game of the season. Billy Garrett Jr. took his first big step as a freshman hitting the game winner leading the Blue Demons to a record of 8-6 overall.

This will be DePaul’s first look at a tournament-tested powerhouse team that will provide a measuring stick of where the Blue Demons stand. Having the ability to compete and preform well against unfamiliar opponents will help this team come together around young talent and create foundation to grow from. A strong performance in this game against Stanford with star caliber talent will transition into DePaul believing that they here in the Big East to compete, and win basketball games.
