The Big East Conference announced Tuesday that Stu Jackson has been named Senior Associate Commissioner of Men's Basketball.

The press release from the BIG EAST describes Jackson's role as one that "will oversee men's basketball operations and strategic planning." This hire is another strong name that is well known within the basketball industry and will help continue to build credibility as this new version of the Big East Conference heads into its second season amid an ever-changing college athletics landscape.

Jackson has a wide range of experience in basketball, having played collegiately at both the University of Oregon and Seattle University and then moved into coaching which includes a spot on Rick Pitino's staff at Providence College from 1985-1987. He would follow Pitino to the New York Knicks and then move into the front office from 1994-2000 with the Vancouver Grizzlies as the President and General Manager. From there he made the move to the NBA league office where he worked for 13 years, most recently as Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations. Jackson spent this past season as a game analyst for BIG EAST games on Fox Sports 1 among other duties with NBA TV.

Jackson will begin his duties on July 28.
