Deonte Burton and John Dawson to transfer from Marquette

Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

Sophomores Deonte Burton and John Dawson are planning on transferring from Marquette University.

The Marquette men's basketball Twitter account announced Burton and Dawson's intentions on Tuesday afternoon.

Burton, a Milwaukee native, is averaging 6.4 points and 1.4 rebounds per game thus far this season. Dawson, meanwhile, has logged just four minutes of action, this coming in Marquette's season opener against Tennessee-Martin.

The university has issued out a press release on the departures of Burton and Dawson:

Sophomores Deonte Burton and John Dawson of the Marquette University men's basketball team have decided to leave the program and will transfer after the conclusion of the first semester (Dec. 14), head coach Steve Wojciechowski announced Tuesday afternoon.

"We appreciate all that Deonte and John have contributed to the program since our staff arrived in April," Wojciechowski said. "We will do everything we can to help them make the next step in their respective careers and wish them nothing but the best in the future."

Burton appeared in all eight of the team's games this season and contributed 6.4 points and 1.4 rebounds per game off the bench in 16.1 minutes per outing. Dawson played in the team's season-opening win over UT Martin this year after seeing action in 24 games off the bench in 2013-14.

The Golden Eagles do add the services of 6-11 center Luke Fischer, who becomes eligible on Dec. 16 against Arizona State after transferring from Indiana last season.
