Butler vs. Indiana State: 3-Point Preview

The Bulldogs return to Indiana fresh off a successful trip to Atlantis to face in-state rival Indiana State. Here are three things to watch for.

Big Game Hangover

This is generally seen mostly in college football, but it can happen in basketball too. Butler is coming off a big week in which they grabbed a third place finish in the Battle 4 Atlantis. The fear becomes that they get too overconfident and overlook a quality Sycamores team. Given the track record of the program historically, they don't tend to do this, but it will be interesting to see how Chris Holtmann combats the feeling.

First Road Test

It's never easy playing against an in-state opponent, especially when that in-state opponent is your first road game of the year. surely some of these guys know each other from playing in Indiana their whole lives, for the most part. Alex and Austin Etherington, for example, are brothers facing off on opposite sites of the court Surely the Sycamores watched Butler knock off North Carolina last week and know what a win against the newly ranked Bulldogs could mean for them. Must like preventing the hangover, Holtmann will also have to make sure Butler doesn't get too wrapped up by the road crowd, and continues to play their style of basketball

Paging Kellen Dunham

Kellen Dunham didn't have a very good Battle for Atlantis. He was shooting the ball constantly, and seldom making shots. He improved a bit in the last game against Georgetown, and likely he was just going through a cold streak which shooters sometimes tend to do, but if it continues into this week against the Sycamores and Northwestern Wildcats, it could be cause for concern.
