Morgan State vs. Marquette game recap: Golden Eagles take care of business, win 81-53

Mary Langenfeld-USA TODAY Sports

You didn’t need to watch a lot of this game to know what was going to happen. Marquette clearly dominated from the opening tip and never relinquished the lead, beating Morgan State 81-53.

MU jumped out in front with the help of Matt Carlino’s hot hand from the outside. The Golden Eagles shot 53 percent in the first-half, while assisting on eight of their first nine field goals. Meanwhile, on defense, MU held Morgan State to just 20 percent shooting.

Morgan State could not find the basket, going on a drought of nearly 12 minutes and 27 seconds. In that time, they went 0/17 shooting with four turnovers, allowing Marquette to go on a 14-0 run.

Marquette's bench had 12 points at the half, one less point than Morgan State's starters as MU led 37-17 at halftime.

The second half was much more even as the Bears’ Cedric Blossom continued to produce offensively. The forward had 21 points on 8-15 shooting from the field, but that was all that Morgan St. was able to get going.

Luke Fischer led the way for Marquette with 15 points and a perfect 6-6 from the field along with nine rebounds. Right behind him was forward Juan Anderson and guard JuJuan Johnson who each made six shots.

The Golden Eagles only played eight men, but they spread the wealth as six of them scored in double figures.

MU shot a staggering 60 percent from the field on its way to a very efficient, yet expected, blow out of Morgan State at the Bradley Center.

Marquette will head to Rosemont next to begin BIG EAST play and take on DePaul at Allstate Arena on New Year’s Eve at 5 p.m. ET.
