Big East Weekly Awards: Pinkston and Wilson shine, earn honors

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Villanova Wildcats forward JayVaughn Pinkston and Marquette Golden Eagles guard Duane Wilson have been named as BIG EAST Player and Rookie of the Week per a press release from the conference.

The decisions are hardly a surprise after each player delivered great performances in last week's games.

Pinkston came up large against rival Syracuse on Saturday as he led the 'Cats to a thrilling overtime victory, 82-77. The Brooklyn native scored 25 points and added 10 rebounds, an assist, two blocks and three steals whilst going 7-for-8 from the free throw line in his only game of the week.

Duane Wilson continues to be a significant contributor for Marquette despite only being a freshman. He dropped 19 points in a win over Arizona State whilst shooting 5-for-8 from the field. The most stellar part of his performance in that game was his ability to get to the free throw line as he had 17 attempts from the charity stripe last Tuesday. He would follow that up with an eight point, two rebound performance in a blowout win over Alabama A&M.

St. John's Red Storm guard D'Angelo Harrison, Providence Friars guard Kris Dunn, Georgetown forward L.J. Peak, Creighton Bluejays forward Toby Hegner, and Marquette Golden Eagles center Luke Fischer were named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for their performances last week.
