The St. John's Red Storm will welcome the Long Beach State 49ers to Queens, New York on Monday night for a Big West-Big East matchup. The Beach has already gotten their feet wet in the sand against this conference, meeting Xavier twice already this season with a hearty 1-1 record under their belt. Senior Michael Caffey has been stupendous this year, averaging 18.25 points per game, and will be someone that the Red Storm has to keep their eye on at Carnesecca Arena.
D'Angelo Harrison meanwhile has been marvelous in these first two months of the college basketball season. He's starting to cement himself as a bona fide candidate for Big East Player of the Year and has scored 20+ points in his last four games. He's doing this all while posting higher efficiency rates than he has in his entire career at St. John's, so it appears that it's all piecing itself together for him in 2014.
This should make for a pretty enticing matchup, and here's the 411.

The Stakes
St. John's is looking to move to 10-1 on the season. It would be the best start the Red Storm has had to a season since the 1990-91 campaign when they were still known as the Redmen and the legendary Lou Carnesecca was pacing the hardwood.
Long Beach State, meanwhile, is merely trying to bump up closer to the .500 mark as they stand at 5-7 going into Monday. They scheduled a really tough nonconference schedule this season, with the two matchups against Xavier, games against BYU, UCLA, Kansas State, Washington Stephen F. Austin, San Diego State and Texas as well. It doesn't stop after St. John's either, as they will battle Syracuse and Louisville in upstate New York and at the Yum! Center. As of this moment, they have the second highest nonconference strength of schedule in the nation, only behind Texas Southern of the SWAC.
