Most people are probably excited about tomorrow afternoon's Battle 4 Atlantis final between No. 2 Wisconsin and Oklahoma, but the real fun can be found in the third-place game, where the Butler Bulldogs and Georgetown Hoyas will give fans an early Big East matchup on Friday.
After both teams upset Top 25 opponents in the first round of the tournament, Butler and Georgetown both lost on Thursday, but in very different ways. The Bulldogs struggled to find a consistent source of offense against an athletic Oklahoma defense, falling behind in the first half on the wrong end of a 16-0 run and never really crawling back within reach. The Hoyas, on the other hand, led Wisconsin for much of their semifinal matchup before the Badgers opened up the floodgates in the final minutes to survive Georgetown's upset bid.
While the Big East schedule doesn't actually open until the end of next month, this matchup between Butler and Georgetown will give us an early idea of what to expect from the two teams in conference play. Both teams have seen a few highs and lows throughout the week already, and each will surely look to get a leg up on a conference opponent.
