Temple could be in West Division of Big East Conference - Sporting News
Seriously? Louisville (if they're still around), Cinci, and Memphis are more west.

It should be... (prior to navy in 2015)
East: UConn, Rutgers, USF, UCF, Temple, Cinci
west: Boise State, SDSU, Houston, SMU, Memphis, Louisville (assuming they’re still around).

Boise is only 40 minutes further from Philly than Hartford, Cincinnati, Louisville, etc.
Good to know.

Problem with the logical geographic setup
Is that Cincinnati, Louisville & USF likely wouldn’t have agreed to adding Memphis, Temple (maybe UCF too) without the stipulation that those teams would be relegated to the “West” division. As tentative as the status for all Big East teams currently is, current teams still get some priority in decisions like this.

I read a post recently where it was suggested that instead of straight east-west divisions there be something more diverse and mixed with schools from both coasts in the same conference.

I don’t like it, but something like it could very well happen due to the reasons you gave above.
