I was a middle school kid in Tampa the last time the South Florida Bulls made the NCAA Tournament. Now that the players from 1991 team are into their forties, few can even remember what it's like to see the Bulls in the NCAA Tournament. After a slow start to the 2011-12 season that was featured some rough losses (Old Dominion, Auburn, Penn State) and a number of injuries to key players, the Bulls turned things around once conference play rolled around.
At full strength, the Bulls made the most of a Big East schedule that featured a number of games that looked tough at the beginning of the season but turned out to be winnable (Pittsburgh, Villanova) and once the team began to build confidence, the Bulls played respectably in a loss to Syracuse and finished with a win at Louisville and a home win over Cincinnati, the two teams that just played for the conference tournament championship.
Here's a video of the Bulls players and staff together learning that they indeed had been selected for the field of 68. This video is courtesy of the Tampa Bay Times.
