The Big East named Dion Dixon of the Cincinnati Bearcats Player of the Week and Andre Drummond of the Connecticut Huskies Rookie of the Week. The conference also released their honor roll today.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The BIG EAST Conference has named Cincinnati guard Dion Dixon and Connecticut center Andre Drummond the winners of the conference's weekly men's basketball honors for the week-ending Jan. 15.
Dixon was named BIG EAST Player of the Week after he scored a season-high 22 points in wins against No. 11/11 Georgetown (68-64) and Villanova (82-78), moving the Bearcats into second place in the BIG EAST standings. He scored six points and had two steals in the final two minutes of the win at Georgetown to give Cincinnati its second straight road win against a top-25 opponent. He scored 17 of his team-high 22 points against Villanova in the first half to keep the Bearcats within striking distance and scored four points in the last 2:10 to seal the win.Drummond earns BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors for the fourth time this season after he averaged 15.0 points and 12.0 rebounds in two wins for Connecticut. He had 20 points with 11 rebounds and three blocks in a 64-57 win against West Virginia and had 10 points with 13 rebounds and two blocks in a 67-53 win at Notre Dame, snapping the Irish's 29-game homecourt winning streak.
