Darrick Wood Commits to St. John's

The St. John's Red Storm got their second commitment of the 2012 class on August 20. With his verbal commitment, NIA Prep and New Jersey Playaz shooting guard Darrick Wood joins Ricardo Gathers in the 2012 class.

Wood had this to say about the St. John's program: "It was the perfect fit for me. Tough, real hardcore basketball. Just the way I like to play."

Wood is the AAU teammate of Kyle Anderson, a player whom the St. John's coaching staff has great interest in signing. Anderson is still considering the Red Storm as well as Florida, Georgetown, Seton Hall and UCLA. Anderson made an unofficial visit to St. John's on Thursday, which "went well" according to his father. Anderson is supposed to announce his decision on September 20.

Under head coach Steve Lavin, St. John's went 21-12 during his first year. The team's NCAA appearance was the first for the school since 2002. Lavin is already building a strong 2012 class on the heels of his incoming 2011 class that was ranked #3 in the nation by Scout. Only Kentucky and Duke had recruiting classes ranked ahead of St. John's.
