Cincinnati and Louisville Win Big East Team Academic Excellence Award

Today the Big East acknowledged 26 teams with the conference's Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2010-2011 season. A total of 11 Big East schools won the award in at least one sport. DePaul led all the schools with five total selections. Notre Dame and Syracuse were tied for second with four sports selected.

The Big East selected Louisville as the men's basketball award winner. The Cardinals won 20 games for the ninth straight season in 2010-2011 and posted a near 3.0 GPA for the last six semesters.

Cincinnati won the football award. While the Bearcats struggled on the field last season with a 4-8 record, they put up a team GPA of 2.9 for the 2011 winter quarter.

This is how the determination is made to award a team with the academic award:

winners were chosen based on the 2010-11 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.

Congrats to the award winners!
