Big East basketball teams were 4-1 on Tuesday. Marquette, Pittsburgh, Seton Hall and Syracuse were all winners. Villanova was the only Big East team to lose on Dec. 6.
The No. 3 Syracuse Orange defeated Marshall 62-56. Scoop Jardine was big for the Orange down the stretch and finished the game with 10 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. The No. 11 Marquette Golden Eagles used a late three-pointer from Jae Crowder to get past the Washington Huskies, 79-77. Crowder finished with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Darius Johnson-Odom led the Golden Eagles with 23 points on the night. For more on Marquette, see Anonymous Eagle.
The No. 14 Pittsburgh Panthers had no trouble with VMI in a 97-70 win. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Panthers. Ashton Gibbs paced the Panthers with 20 points. For more on Pittsburgh, visit Cardiac Hill.
The Seton Hall Pirates convincingly defeated the NJIT Highlanders, 78-48. The Pirates were led by Herb Pope's 25 points. Jordan Theodore had a double double with 11 points and 11 assists. For more on Seton Hall, visit South Orange Juice.
The Villanova Wildcats made a second half run but couldn't overcome a large deficit from the first half against No. 10 Missouri in the Jimmy V Classic.
