Kevin Jones Named Big East Player Of The Week, Andre Drummond Rookie Of The Week

The Big East has made their weekly basketball release today. West Virginia's Kevin Jones, the new Big East leader in scoring and rebounding, was named the Player of the Week. Connecticut's Andre Drummond, who is tied for the league lead in blocks, was named the Rookie of the Week.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The BIG EAST Conference has named West Virginia forward Kevin Jones and Connecticut center Andre Drummond the winners of the conferece's weekly men's basketball honors for the week-ending Dec. 25.

Jones was named BIG EAST Player of the Week after he averaged 23.0 points and 14.7 rebounds in three games for West Virginia, turning in three double-doubles in a 2-1 week. He had 25 points and 14 rebounds in a win against Tennessee Tech, added 16 points and 13 boards in a win against Missouri State and had a career-high 28 points with 17 rebounds in an overtime loss to No. 6/7 Baylor. Jones moved into the BIG EAST lead in both scoring (21.0 ppg) and rebounding (11.9 rpg) for the season.

Drummond was tabbed as BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the second straight week and the third time this season as he scored 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting to go with nine rebounds, four steals and two blocks in Connecticut's only game of the week, a 79-71 win against Fairfield. Drummond, who has made 25 of his last 29 field goal attempts, is averaging 9.7 points and 6.2 rebounds for the Huskies.

Vincent Council, Providence, G, Jr.
Averaged 16.0 points, 9.0 assists and 7.0 rebounds in wins against New Hampshire and Rhode Island.

Jordan Theodore, Seton Hall, F, Sr.
Averaged 20.0 points and 7.0 assists in road wins against Dayton and Longwood.
