The 2011-2012 basketball season kicked off on Nov. 7 with a comeback win by St. John's against William & Mary. The Red Storm had another comeback win against Lehigh two days later. Yesterday, the college basketball season began in earnest with 131 games on the slate. The Big East won all of their Friday games and the six games today. The Big East is now 16-0 on the young season. Although the competition hasn't been the toughest, that's still an impressive start for a league that landed 11 NCAA bids last season.
The last two games today were nail biters. South Florida held on against Vermont 61-59 and Seton Hall came back to win in overtime against St. Francis (NY).
Ten different players have scored 20 or more points in a game for a Big East team. Cincinnati is the only Big East team that has not played yet. Villanova, Pittsburgh and Marquette all had at least 20 assists in their first game.
Tomorrow the Big East will have four more games: Louisville vs. Lamar; Pittsburgh vs. Rider; Cincinnati vs. Alabama St.; St. John's vs. UMBC.
