St. John’s head coach Chris Mullin and his staff had a very busy week on the recruiting trail. They shot out offers to a multitude of 2019, 2020 and 2021 players. We were a little bit slow this week, but let’s get back in the mix:
One of the first offers sent out this week was from a player in nearby New Jersey. Al-Amir Dawes of The Patrick School picked up an offer from the Johnnies earlier this week. The news was first reported by Andrew Slater of The Athletic. Dawes is a three-star recruit per 247Sports Composite but is listed as a four-star on other services. He currently sits 8th among all New Jersey recruits at this juncture. He also received an offer from the TCU Horned Frogs this week and is currently hooping at Peach Jam, like so many others.
This news came to us on Friday. Jaylin Williams, one of the best players in the Class of 2019, was offered by the Red Storm. The news came from Samad Hines, a contributor to Prep Hoops and On the Radar Hoops. Williams is listed at 6-foot-7, 205 lbs. and is a four-star recruit in 2019. He ranks 77th overall, 19th among power forwards and is 3rd in the state of Georgia.
Another bit of news to come Friday was the offer of 2020 prospect Walker Kessler. Kessler is one of the best prospects in the entire nation, listed as a five-star recruit on 247 Sports Composite. The 6-foot-10, 205-pound Kessler ranks 4th right now among all centers in his class, listed behind fellow five-stars Evan Mobley, N’Faly Dante and Hunter Dickinson. He also ranks 3rd among all Georgia recruits, sitting behind five-star shooting guards Anthony Edwards and Brandon Boston. The Fairburn native is 21st in the nation, so it’s fair to say he’s very much a blue-chip prospect. Walker was also offered by the Memphis Tigers and Illinois Fighting Illini this week.
2020 prospect Isaiah Rivera also received an offer from St. John’s earlier this week. Rivera himself announced the offer on his personal Twitter account. Isaiah is a 6-foot-4, 185-pound shooting guard, who currently attends Geneseo High School in Geneseo, Illinois and also plays for Quad City Elite. As of now, St. John’s joins a crop including Southern, the Drake Bulldogs, Loyola-Chicago Ramblers and New Mexico Lobos as programs who’ve offered.
Earlier in the week, 2021 prospect Alexis Reyes picked up an offer from the Johnnies, as first reported by Pat Lawless. Reyes is originally from the Dominican Republic, where he played on the country’s national team. He is down at Peach Jam, like many others, playing for Expressions Elite on the EYBL circuit. Currently, he attends The Rectory School in Boston, Massachusetts.
2021 big man Gabe Wiznitzer received an offer from the Johnnies back on Tuesday. Wiznitzer is a native of Walhalla, South Carolina and currently attends The Christ School in Arden, North Carolina. Wiznitzer has only a few other offers as of right now, from the Iona Gaels and the Marist Red Foxes of the MAAC. But standing at 6-foot-11 and 240 lbs. as a 2021 prospect, he should no doubt field more offers going forward.
