Is everyone ready for one more game? Xavier has already won two in two days, albeit in very different ways. Wednesday’s 101-49 drubbing of Oakland brought fun and excitement, while Thursday’s 51-50 nailbiter against Bradley brought a bit of dread before an ultimate sigh of relief.
Xavier probably will score somewhere between 51 and 101 points Friday against Toledo. That seems like a safe bet. The good news for Xavier is simple, though. They’re 2-0, they’ve made the best of having three players quarantining due to COVID, and Zach Freemantle has looked like a budding star so far this season. Paul Scruggs also helped keep the team afloat on Thursday with 17 points. The early part of the season is meant for working out kinks, and there’s no better time to do that than in your third game in 72 hours.
Toledo lost to Bradley at the buzzer on Wednesday before picking up an 80-57 win against Oakland on Thursday. Spencer Littleson had 24 points in the victory, and he will be a player for Xavier to focus on on Friday. Toledo also hit 16 threes in Thursday’s win and 11 in Wednesday’s loss to Bradley. They’re shooting .429 from deep so far this season, and Xavier will have to key in on that aspect.
