The Xavier Musketeers opened the college basketball season with a bang on Wednesday, rolling past the Oakland Golden Grizzlies with an emphatic 101-49 victory. The Musketeers showed a little bit of everything and completely overmatched Oakland throughout the contest.

Can Xavier’s strong play continue against Bradley? Probably not to the tune of a 50-point win, but the Musketeers certainly can take care of business against a Braves team that needed a last-second layup to beat Toledo on Wednesday. It’s definitely possible that we’ll see a bit of sluggishness and sloppy play as the teams play their second game in 24 hours, but the home court advantage should also help the Musketeers.

The Musketeers will have to be sure to watch Ja’Shon Henry who had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Braves in the win. A big bright spot for Xavier on Wednesday was the rebounding prowess of Zach Freemantle and Bryan Griffin, and the Musketeers will certainly look to keep that going in Thursday’s contest.
