Seton Hall 90 Georgetown 75 : Courtside observations

Newark, NJ - Coming out with energy. Coaches aspire to have their teams respond from the opening tip. Not that easy and hard to ascertain why teams do or do not. Seton Hall definitely did that the opening minutes in their battle against Georgetown. Wednesday night at the Prudential Center, the host Pirates played the early aggressor. Yes Sandro Mamukelashvili hit a couple threes to get the crowd going. Beyond that, Seton Hall showed other signs as rebounding, coming up with loose balls, defending and showing good offensive ball movement. At the under twelve minute media time out, Seton Hall led 23-11. A lead on the scoreboard and in the momentum category as well.

Patrick Ewing has Georgetown trapping the guards and picking p over half court. The Georgetown coach is altering the defensive looks. Unfortunately for the Hoyas, Seton Hall with Myles Powell firing on all cylinders, is threatening to run away.

Jessie Govan, Georgetown’s leading scorer, is the only Hoya producing offense on a consistent basis. As the half winds down, it’s evident Georgetown’s concern is on the defensive, rather than offensive, end Myles Powell is in a grove. He’s not the only one as teammates as Michael Nzei are contributing to Seton Hall’s first twenty minutes of excellence. Well, near excellence. A few sloppy minutes allow Georgetown to get the deficit to a manageable figure.

Georgetown heats up on the perimeter. Senior guard Greg Malinowski hits two beyond the arc to trim the deficit to thirteen at the twelve minute media time out. Out of that break Seton Hall coach runs a set to get Powell free for a catch and shoot. Swish. The lead back to sixteen. Hoyas refuse t go away. Jamorko Pickett hits a three to get the deficit to eleven with just under eight minutes left. A lot of time to play and interesting to see how Seton Hall will react. Go conservative or continue to attack.
