For the second straight week, St. John’s Red Storm guard Shamorie Ponds has been named the Big East Player of the Week!

Ponds was nothing short of incredible in St. John’s two victories this week. He led the way with 26 points in the Red Storm’s historic upset of #1 Villanova, and then set a Carnesecca Arena record with a career-high 44 points in St. John’s victory over Marquette. Ponds continues to close the gap on Markus Howard’s conference scoring lead, as Ponds is now in second place at 21.4 points per game, behind Howard’s 21.9.

Meanwhile, Freshman of the Week honors went to Georgetown forward Jamorko Pickett. Pickett had 18 points in Georgetown’s win over Seton Hall on Saturday, and hauled in seven rebounds in the team’s loss to Providence Tuesday night.
