NCAA Tournament Bracket Reveal: Villanova, Xavier currently sit as No. 1 seeds

No surprise here.

NCAA Basketball: Xavier at Villanova Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The NCAA Selection Committee revealed their projected Top 16 seeds for the NCAA Tournament on Sunday afternoon. Reports of a conference’s alleged “demise” were greatly exaggerated, as your favorite conference is currently sitting with not one, but two No. 1 seeds.

Those belong to the Villanova Wildcats and Xavier Musketeers. The Cats and Muskies have both been outstanding this season. So it comes as no surprise that both of them are currently on the 1-seed line along with the Virginia Cavaliers and Purdue Boilermakers. If the Tourney started today, ‘Nova would own the No. 2 overall seed, while Xavier would have the No. 3 overall seed. UVA currently has the No. 1 overall seed, and Purdue has the No. 4 overall seed.

While no other Big East teams are currently in the Top 16, the conference would still benefit in a big way by owning two of the four one seeds. So, we’ll see how things play out. It’s important to remember that while there are 20 days left until Selection Sunday, no major shifts should really be expected. It’s a small sample size, but last year, 15 of the 16 teams that were in the Top 16 wound up being in the Top 16.
