We've heard this story before
The Xavier Musketeers came into Omaha looking to firmly secure their 6-seed in the Big East Tournament against a Creighton team that could not seem to put the proper pieces together to lock up wins in their previous four games. The first half told a tale that's seemed familiar to the Bluejays' previous tilts, wherein they got hot from the field and played stellar defense to close out the first 20. The second half was primarily led by Xavier Senior Matt Stainbrook, playing in his last regular season game in a Xavier uniform, and he did not disappoint. Stainbrook went off, missing only 3 shots from the field and pouring in 26 points (11-14 shooting).
After a few costly turnovers and a bit of a cold stretch, Xavier allowed the Bluejays to climb back into the game in the second half. With under 10 seconds left Creighton Senior Devin Brooks pushed Creighton ahead to a one point lead. On the ensuing Xavier possession, Dee Davis was sent to the line to shoot two, made both and allowed the Musketeers a bit of breathing room with a one point advantage. Late game scenarios have become the bane to Creighton's Big East matches and as Chatman's 25-footer clanged of the front of the iron it became evident that the Bluejays seemingly can not seal the deal.
As we approach the Big East tournament we'll see the Musketeers with the six seed and the Bluejays solemnly conceding to the 10.
