St. John's vs. Marquette: 3-Point Preview

Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

1. Its now about finishing off the resume

Its amazing the different spot that St. John's was in the first time they met Marquette on the court at Madison Square Garden.  Marquette was 2-2 at that point in the Big East standings, while the Johnnies were 1-4 in conference play and slowly looking briefly into the abyss.  Now though, the fortunes have completely reversed as Marquette will be entering this game on a five game losing skid and St. John's riding a three game win streak. For St. John's this game is just another one to notch on their resume for the postseason, whereas the Golden Eagles will look to play spoiler for St. John's.

2. Getting hot at the right time

Over the past stretch of games, the Johnnies have been firing on most, if not all, cylinders in their past three games.  In the month of February, St. John's when 6-2 and quickly corrected their woes in the previous month, at this point in the season they are truly a dangerous team to anyone else in the Big East with the closure of the season coming. They've gotten considerable minutes and production from everyone in the starting lineup and occasional glimpses off the bench. The biggest factor has been the emergence of Sir'Dominic Pointer who has added a complete stand alone option beyond D'Angelo Harrison for the Johnnies.

3. Ending the season on a high note

For Marquette this game against St. John's begins their final home stand of the season at the BMO Harris Center in Milwaukee. It has been a rough season for the Golden Eagles, then again it was going to be a year of transition into the Woj era. They have St. John's Tuesday and then close with DePaul. Perhaps they can end their season on a high not and also but to bed their losing streak.
