For the 82nd time, the Xavier Musketeers and Cincinnati Bearcats will clash on the hardwood on Wednesday night. The stakes are relatively high for both squads, as each is on the cusp of making the NCAA Tournament and any losses felt could squash either team's dreams of dancing come March.
The Musketeers have dominated this rivalry over the last 15 years, winning 10 matchups against Cincy over this time period. Furthermore, five of the last seven games have tilted Xavier's way including their 64-47 victory over the Bearcats at the U.S. Bank Arena last season. With that all said, UC still holds a firm edge in the series, as they are ahead of their crosstown rival 49-32 in their 81 previous meetings.
Both teams find themselves going into this rivalry meeting looking to rebound off of losses. Xavier had a rare slipup at home on Saturday, losing to St. John's 78-70 to move to 16-10 on the year, and a dismal 7-7 mark tacked on within Big East league play. Cincinnati, on the other hand, is riding a two-game losing streak after a last-second defeat at the hands of Tulane on Saturday as well. Cincy currently stands at 17-8 with an 8-5 record in conference play in the American Athletic Conference.
