After averaging 11.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game for the Xavier Musketeers last season, Justin Martin has announced his commitment to play for SMU next season. Martin's departure was announced in April following a strong second-half of the season that saw him score in double figures in 16 of the team's final 21 contests.
Martin's exit, along with sophomore Semaj Christon leaving for the NBA draft, means that Xavier will be without its top-two scorers next season as they look to return to the NCAA Tournament. Look for rising sophomore Myles Davis to pick up most of Martin's minutes. Davis picked up most of Martin's minutes at small forward off the bench last season and had a team-low turnover rate while shooting 33.1% from three-point range.
Under Larry Brown, SMU looks to make the NCAA Tournament in the Hall of Fame coach's third season. The Mustangs finished last year as runner-up in the NIT, the program's second winning season since 2003.
