DePaul Announces 2014-15 Non-Conference Schedule

A home game versus Stanford and a Christmas tourney in Hawaii headline the Blue Demons upcoming non-conference schedule.

DePaul announced their 2014-15 Non-Conference schedule on Wednesday, highlighted by seven home games and a December trip to Honolulu, Hawaii.

The Blue Demons will open their season at McGrath-Phillips Arena on Nov. 14th against the UIC Flames, the first of four state programs they will face this season. DePaul will host nearby Northern Illinois Dec. 2nd before heading down I-90/94 to match up with Chicago State on Dec. 4th, whom they beat at home last December, 77-70. The Demons will also see a rematch at home against Illinois State on Dec. 14th. The 2013-14 campaign saw ISU pick up a 69-64 win over DePaul in Redbird Arena.

DePaul will play their first game at the Allstate Arena Nov. 18th when Drake visits suburban Chicago. A week later, Lehigh travels to Rosemont to face off against the Blue Demons, who will also welcome Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Dec. 7th. Milwaukee fell to DePaul 80-71 back in November.

DePaul will match up with two Pac-12 opponents this year. The Stanford Cardinal, who reached the Sweet Sixteen in the 2014 NCAA Tournament, will become the first non-conference regional semifinalist to visit the Allstate Arena since Vanderbilt in 2007 when it ventures into the Rosemont Horizon Nov. 30th. After a road contest in Washington D.C. with George Washington on Dec.11th, DePaul will visit Corvallis, Oregon Dec. 18th to take on Oregon State, who they defeated at home last season, 93-81.

DePaul will conclude their non-conference schedule with a holiday trip to Honolulu for the Hawaii Airlines Diamond Head Classic. The tournament will feature eight teams - DePaul, Colorado, George Washington, Loyola Marymount, Nebraska, Ohio, Wichita State, and host team Hawaii - over three days from Dec. 22nd through Christmas Day. A tournament bracket and television information has yet to be finalized.

It's shaping up to be another productive non-conference schedule for the Demons. DePaul went 8-5 in their 2013-14 non-conference tilt, besting three of the four of the teams they will meet again this upcoming season. Most of DePaul's wins come during this period, so its crucial the Blue Demons get off to a hot start in order to sustain it once the Big East schedule hits. Aside from the Diamond Head Classic, DePaul could come away with another 8 wins before the end of December. Although it's unlikely a home upset over Stanford will happen, the Demons have some very winnable games versus Chicago State, UIC, and Northern Illinois. If the boys from Lincoln Park get off to a slow start before conference play, it could spell the end of Oliver Purnell's run as head coach sooner than expected.
