DePaul went international to find one of their recruits.

Throughout college basketball, more and more teams are starting to recruit internationally. Baylor and Gonzaga have great Canadian pipelines, top recruit Ben Simmons is from Australia, and AP All-American Buddy Hield is from the Bahamas.

DePaul's roster will also include a foreign born player this year, as two-star guard Erten Gazi comes to the Blue Demons from Istanbul, Turkey.

Gazi was born in Cyprus, a Turkish state along the Mediterranean. His parents are both former college athletes, as his father played volleyball and his mother participated in track and field. Outside of this information, not too much more is known about Gazi off the court.

On the court, though, is a different story. Gazi played for Turkey in the 2015 U18 FIBA Championships. He averaged 5.6 points and 2.8 rebounds per game en route to Turkey's championship appearance. Highlights of Gazi from the U18 Championships can be found below.

In 16 minutes of action in DePaul's exhibition game against Caldwell, Gazi scored one point, had one assist, and racked up four turnovers and three fouls.

Gazi has some things he could polish in his game, as do most international players coming over to play in the United States, but if Dave Leitao and his staff can develop Gazi's raw skills, he may very well end up being a great player for DePaul down the line.

The latest profile in our "Get to Know an Incoming Recruit" series puts a DMV native under the microscope. Meet DePaul's Oumar Barry.

The DMV area is rich with hoops talent to say the very least. It's not a wild statement to say that it's one of the more profound areas with regards to hardwood talent both young and old. After all, #DMVhoops has and is a prominent designation for a reason. Delaware, Maryland and Virginia have produced some of the best basketball players in the country in the past, present, and will no doubt continue to do so.

One of those hoopers is under the microscope here as we introduce you to DePaul Blue Demons commit Oumar Barry.

Back on September 17, 2014, Barry committed to DePaul University. The 6-foot-9 power forward at the time was the second commit in DePaul's Class of 2015 under then head coach Oliver Purnell as he joined his former AAU teammate Deville Phillips. He chose the Blue Demons over such schools like Wake Forest, Xavier, Quinnipiac and East Carolina among others.

As it would turn out, Barry is part of a group of five (coincidentally!) freshmen who will be suiting up for the Blue Demons at some point or another.

Barry may have attended Bishop O'Connell High School in Virginia, but that does not mean that his roots are in the Mid-Atlantic. On the contrary. Barry was born in the country of Guinea in West Africa, in the city of Conakry. Conakry is the largest city in the country -- as well as its capital -- at 170 square miles with a population of 1,1667,864 per the 2014 census.

It's unclear how the 6-foot-9 power forward will be utilized under Dave Leitao. But what is certain is that should he develop well under the new head coach of the Blue Demons, Barry will continue to only perpetuate the prosperous pipeline of the DMV, and be a key cog for a DePaul program that is itching for a turnaround.

Get to know Creighton's incoming freshman Marlon Stewart, who is likely to redshirt this season.

The 6-foot-1 guard from Eldridge, Iowa, is likely to sit out this season and learn. However, Marlon Stewart possesses some of the skills necessary to compete in the Big East.

A stocky guard with a pass-first mentality, Stewart led his North Scott High School team and garnered attention for his leadership and impressive on-court abilities. He led the Lancers to the state title in 2015 and averaged 17 points-per-game and 3.5 assists-per-game. Stewart's contributions also led to North Scott ending Iowa City West's run of state titles.

Creighton has had an Iowan on its roster for as long as this writer can remember, and Stewart continues that trend. Although he's likely to redshirt due to a surplus of guards at Creighton this season, it could be the best thing for him as he's suffered a preseason injury, hampering his ability to learn during practices.

Stewart was recruited by Northern Illinois, Florida Gulf Coast, Toledo, Robert Morris and former MVC foe Bradley.

According to his bio on Creighton's athletics website, Stewart likes chicken alfredo, Kanye West, and the movie I Am Legend. Not a terrible trio, is it?

Competing with Stewart for minutes next season will be guards Marcus Foster, Maurice Watson Jr., Isaiah Zierden and Malik Albert. Big East members may not see much of Stewart until the 2017-18 season.

The Slovenian Assassin will take your basketball soul away from you and eat it in front of your family like a plate of dumplings.

The J is silent.

Martin Krampelj is most certainly a basketball player from Grosuplje, Slovenia - a city thats name translates roughly to 'the wet village', which happens to be the most accurate way to describe Krampelj's jumper - wet. A typical euro-style basketball player, Krampelj is well rounded in the essential fundamentals of basketball. Standing at a stalky 6'9 he most certainly has the proper height to play basketball while his weight sits at around 205lbs, also a good metric if you want to play hoopball. Perhaps he won't be bounding into the lanes against the mighty cottonwoods of the Big East but he'll be sitting behind the arc, and occasionally a few steps inside of it, pouring in buckets with relative ease. Almost impossible to defend from the perimeter considering his size, Krampelj will surely baffle his opponents by speaking a different language while nailing jumpers from anywhere on the court.

His hometown of Grosuplje is know for its mass grave - a place of eternal rest for Slovene soldiers and citizens created by mass executions under the communist regime during WWII. Grosuplje is also home to a parish church dedicated to Saint Michael who was noted as, "the great prince who stands up for the children of your people." Saint Michael was also appointed to lead God's army in the war against Satan in the book of revelation and is regarded as the protector of the people when the end times are near. In the Qur'an Michael is mentioned as being Allah's messenger and an enemy to all non-believers. If this isn't a phenomenal omen to the Creighton basketball program, I don't know what is. If you allow me to go completely off the rails here, I believe that the 'end times' refer to the departure of Doug McDermott. Creighton fans watched last year as the offense was stifled by a lack of consistent options and the children no longer had a player to latch on to for hope. Then, when the storm clouds looked their darkest, Martin Krampelj committed to the Bluejays and the offensive stagnation looks to weaken as the season approaches -- much like when Huracane Patricia hit Mexico's coast. Thus, Krampelj is an enemy to all those who do not believe in the Creighton basketball program, will protect the children from having to watch another sub-.500 squad, and will stand up for those back in Slovenia and make them proud to be part of something a lot less depressing than observing the Euro plummet in value.

Perhaps I'm a bit optimistic/obtuse/insane when I say that Martin Krampelj will be the savior that takes Creighton past the promised land (in other words, the Sweet 16), but I dare to dream a wildly fun dream. In all reality, Krampelj is a really good shooter and a solid all-around player. He's a 20 year old freshman and won a couple of national titles with his Slovenian U-16 team. He shot 65% in Creighton's summer trip to Italy (though, the Italians really didn't play defense) and he won Creighton's slam dunk contest!

Here's a video of a train passing through Krampelj's European home. Sure looks like beautiful country out there!

Meet one of DePaul's newest players, who attended a famed Chicago high school prior to making his commitment to the Blue Demons.

The famed Simeon Career Academy in Chicago, Illinois has seen some of The Windy City's best hoopers come and go over the years. From the likes of Jabari Parker, Derrick Rose, to Nick Anderson and Ben Wilson, whose life was tragically cut short in the mid-1980s, the school has gained a steady, sizable reputation for its rich history on the hardwood.

The 2016 recruiting class features a few highly-ranked names from Simeon Academy. Zach Norvell and Ben Coupet, to be specific, are the No. 2 and No. 7 recruits in the state of Illinois and they too will look to follow in the footsteps of some of the best to ever do it in The Windy City. The 2015 class meanwhile isn't alone either. D.J. Williams and Ed Morrow are both entering the realm of college hoops, set to attend Illinois and Nebraska respectively. Also in the mix is Iowa commit Isaiah Moss, as well as the player we're profiling today: DePaul's Frederick Scott.

Not to be confused with Frederick Scott Archer, the inventor of the photographic collodion process, Frederick Scott is originally a native of the town of Munster, Indiana, a northwest Indiana community that might as well be a suburb of Chicago as it's located within 30 miles of The Loop. The town is also the home of comedian Jim Gaffigan, and if Scott is as good at basketball as Gaffigan is at jokes, well, needless to say DePaul will have hauled in a good one.

Scott had the opportunity to showcase himself this past spring in The Lone Star State. Whilst playing in the adidas Gauntlet Series in Dallas, the 6-foot-7 forward performed marvelously. Scott amassed averages of 19.6 points and 9.4 rebounds - nearly a double-double - in the Gauntlet Series against some of the best prep players in America.

Transitioning that production from prep play to the college game is easier said, but it's evident that Scott has the type of talent that could help vault DePaul up from the cellar of the Big East and turn it into a formidable in the conference. Reaching that potential is the next goal for the newest Blue Demon who will be hitting the floor this November.

After a stellar prep career, 6'3" Drew Edwards comes to the Friars bringing along a solid scoring touch to a guard heavy recruiting class

Following their second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, Providence enters into this season seeking a third trip to the dance under the watchful eyes of head coach Ed Cooley. Entering his fifth season as head coach of the Friars, Cooley once again was able to repeat his 2014 recruiting success with this season's incoming group of five players intended to diversify Providence's roster.

Among the five who will be making a name for themselves for Providence this season were a pair of shooting guards, both of whom have bring a different facet to the position which will benefit the team, while also addressing the need for shooters. These two players are Ryan Fazekas and Drew Edwards. While Fazekas was covered late last month by fellow BECB writer Mike Hopkins, we now turn our attention the Edwards a 6-foot-3 shooting guard and native of Towson, Maryland.

Coming into PC, Edwards is an interesting project for Ed Cooley as his size and frame is something that the Friars coaching staff will look to work on and fill out. Coming into college, Edwards believes he is up to task over the concerns about his size and weight, but he believes that he is prepared for his first season. What he may lack in strength, he makes up for in mental aspects of the game and a solid scoring touch, both which were on display in his prep school career with Calvert Hill College and in summer sessions with Maryland 3D on the Amateur Athletic Union circuit.

At Calvert Hill, he was captain in his junior and senior seasons, and in his senior season averaged 18 points and 7.0 rebounds. In all, he scored 1,500 points in his career at Calvert Hill and also earned All-MIAA First Team accolades from 2013 to 2015. In his senior season, Edwards earned Baltimore Catholic League First Team honors as well.

Due to his ascending success in high school, recruiters came along as Edwards drew interest from nine schools. Among them were Clemson, La Salle, Dayton, and Bucknell. In November of 2014, he would sign onto the offer extended to him by Providence.

With his scoring ability and the fact that he was recruited along with fellow guards Ryan Fazekas and Ricky Council, the Friars have a scoring touch at the position that will be a great addition for this season and those to come. If Edwards keeps developing he'll be a force for the Friars in the coming seasons.

On November 12, 2014, Soffer signed his letter of intent to become the first member of the Pirates' 2015 recruiting class. At the time, Soffer was more than pleased to join The Hall, as he told BECB that he enjoyed the visit and had lots of fun.

Fun might be the word to describe the former Loyola (MD) commit. Soffer is a two-star recruit via 247Sports Composite Rankings, but the Poway native is a stellar shooter, as former Big East Coast Bias writer and current Hoyas247 scribe Devonte Brooks wrote for us:

Soffer is the definition of a shooter. When he is behind the arc, there's a high chance that the ball will go in, and that is one thing he takes pride in. When he comes off screens, he is deadly. One thing that is underrated about his game is that he can get to the lane.

This would later be substantiated by an ESPN scouting report on the 6-foot-4, 190 pounder:

Strengths:
Soffer has broad shoulders, solid length, and can score at all three levels, specifically from 3-point range. He is always on balance when releasing his shot and his release is smooth. He moves well without the ball and is a good passer in the half court set.

Quality 3-point shooting would certainly be something that the Pirates wouldn't mind. A season ago they were just above average in the category, ranking 136th in the country with a 35.0 percent mark from behind the arc. The average for Division 1 hoops a season ago was 34.3 percent, and a sharpshooter like Soffer could provide an assist for The Hall in years to come.

We'll have to hold out to see what exactly Soffer's role will be with the Pirates in his freshman season but if he proves to be as good of a shooter as his scouting report claims he is, Kevin Willard could utilize him as an effective weapon off the bench when he's needed. And suffice it to say, that could eventually invoke some fear in the minds of Seton Hall's Big East peers.

In 2015 that proved to be no different.

The state also sent another recruit to a Big East school in the form of Burlington's Traci Carter, who will be suiting up for the Marquette Golden Eagles later this fall.

Also, Amarveer Singh of Jersey City decided to stay in state and play for Kevin Willard and the Seton Hall Pirates.

Finally, there is one more highly touted 2015 commit from New Jersey that we will introduce to you. His name is Elijah Cain, and you'll be seeing him play for the DePaul Blue Demons this coming season.

***

Here's the skinny on Elijah Cain.

Previously, the N.J. Playaz guard had been a commit for the Delaware Blue Hens, but had decided to decommit from the Colonial Athletic Association member in November 2014. Five months later, Cain decided to sign with the Blue Demons on April 20, 2015. On that day, he became the fourth member of DePaul's 2015 recruiting class, at the time joining Raymond Doby, Oumar Barry and Develle Phillips (Doby would later decommit and eventually land at South Carolina).

Via 247Sports Composite Rankings, Elijah Cain is a three-star point guard. He ranks 14th in the state of New Jersey, 13th via 247Sports' rankings, 296th nationally, and 57th at the point guard position. While a resident, Cain attended the famed St. Benedict's Prep in Newark, New Jersey.

St. Benedict's has been one of the top schools in the country with regards to sending athletes into the NBA. Lance Thomas, Tyler Ennis, Samardo Samuels, J.R. Smith are a few notable alumni of the school as well as former Villanova Wildcats guard Corey Stokes. There's no telling right now if Cain is going to follow in their footsteps, but the pedigree is absolutely there at this point in time.

Per DePaul's official website, Cain was successful while at St. Benedict's. In his senior season, the 6-foot-2, 202-pound point guard amassed 16 points per game while also averaging 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists. That season, Cain and his fellow St. Benedict's Gray Bees went 31-6 while netting the D1 Championship at the NCSAA Championships as well as the New Jersey State Prep Title.

Cain did quite well for himself on the AAU circuit as well while under the direction of head coach Jimmy Salmon. He totaled 5.4 points and 3.0 rebounds per game during Nike EBYL play and helped lead the Playaz to a Peach Jam championship.

As far as what Cain may bring to the table this season, here's the low down Blue Demons fans. This scouting report on Cain comes to us from Future150:

Strengths:
A very long and lengthy point guard who plays a cerebral game at all times. He never plays the game out of control, and uses advanced dribbling skills to get into the lane whenever he pleases. He also has proven that he is a very capable mid-range jump shooter.

Weaknesses:
One of his biggest weakenesses right now is his lack of strength. He is easily outmuscled on the defensive side of the ball, so he will need to add strengh before he gets to the college level. He also needs to improve on his foot speed.

All told, Cain will be backing up accomplished Blue Demon point guard Billy Garrett Jr. this coming season and perhaps next year too if the Chicago native sticks around for his senior season. After the 2016-17 season concludes, we will likely be getting a much better idea of what we're seeing from Cain and whether or not head coach Dave Leitao can help develop him into a stout floor general. For now, we should be able to see him net rotation-type minutes off the bench. From there, we will see how the New Jersey point guard adapts to the college game, and whether he can become another notch in the already overly large belt that The Garden State is rocking.
