Big East Expansion: BYU Negotiations Hitting a Snag?

According to Jay Drew of the Salt Lake Tribune, the Big East continues to negotiate and try to accomodate BYU's television contract with ESPN to get the Cougars as a football member of the Big East. Drew reports that the two parties can't seem to work out the details right now and the fear of the disappearance of the AQ status is making BYU think twice about the move.

St. John's To Play in 2012 Charleston Classic

St. John's has agreed to play in the Charleston Classic again in 2012, according to Adam Zagoria. The Red Storm will be joined by Baylor, Boston College, Charleston, Colorado, Dayton and SIU. The tournament will add one more team. Georgetown won the Charleston Classic in 2010. Seton Hall is currently playing St. Joseph's in this year's event. Syracuse Basketball Assistant Bernie Fine Being Investigated For Molestation of Team Ball Boy

ESPN's Outside the Lines is reporting that long time Syracuse assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine, who has been on the Syracuse staff with Jim Boeheim since 1976, is being investigated by police for allegedly molesting a team ball boy for over 12 years. The molestation is alleged to have begun in the 1980s. The accuser is former ball boy Bobby Davis. The report indicates that a second person has also come forward accusing Fine of molesting him as well.

Norvel Pelle Decommits from St. John's

Sources have told Johnny Jungle that Norvel Pelle has decommitted from St. John's. His recruitment will now be reopened. On signing day, we expected Pelle to sign with the Red Storm for the 2012 class. Pelle, one of the top frontline players in the 2011 class, originally committed for 2011, but was ruled academically ineligible by the NCAA. Pelle also just tweeted and confirmed the decommitment.

The little known Brandon Burlsworth Trophy is a new award given annually to the nation's best college football player that began his career as a walk-on. The list of nominees has now been released and the Big East has three players nominated for the award. Connecticut quarterback Johnny McEntee, Pittsburgh defensive tackle Chas Alecxih, and South Florida offensive lineman Chaz Hine were all nominated for the Trophy that will be awarded December 9th in Arkansas.

New AP Basketball Poll: UConn Still Has 2 First Place Votes, Six Big East Teams Ranked

The Connecticut Huskies stayed at #4 in the new basketball AP Poll, but they also kept their 2 first place votes. Six total Big East teams were ranked: #4 UConn, #5 Syracuse, #8 Louisville, #9 Pittsburgh (up 1 spot), #20 Cincinnati (up 1 spot), #21 Marquette (up 1 spot). Villanova received 19 votes and West Virginia received 1 vote.
