Banks fielded close to double-digit Division I scholarship offers throughout the recruitment process. The Providence Friars had offered him in mid-July, his final scholarship offer before committing to VCU.
Before making the decision, he had other offers from UNCG, Elon, Coastal Carolina, Virginia Tech, Murray State, UMass, Charlotte, and Charleston.
After an early offer from Charlotte, Banks really started to enter the Division I conversation after solid performances during the high school and AAU seasons. This past season, he averaged 20.6 points and 5.6 rebounds for Olympic. He followed up his impressive play with a strong showing in the spring and summer for Team United, averaging just over 16 points a game during AAU play.
