It’s not everyday that you see a Division I scholarship being offered to a rising high school freshman.
You also don’t see very many soon-to-be ninth graders standing in at almost seven feet tall.
Gai Chol (South Sudan/Greenforest McCalep Christian) is a unique player in his own right. He hasn’t started his freshman year of high school yet, but at 6-foot-11 he’s demonstrated great potential as an enforcer inside.
On Friday, the big man received an offer to play in the Big Apple for St. John’s.
Blessed and humbled to receive an offer from @StJohnsBBall

Chol has the makings of a quality center inside, with the ability to finish around the basket and drain close-range shots. He’s also a solid rim protector and enforcer in the paint.
So far, he only has one other offer from Tulane. He’s also said to have interest from schools like Auburn and Xavier. With his size and the trajectory that he’s on, it’s only a matter of time before more schools take notice.
The Red Storm is onto the recruiting scene early for him. Things are only bound to get busy for him, as he continues to build a name for himself.
