Some high school freshmen haven’t even gotten their braces off yet, but 2022 guard Tyrell Ward is already fielding Division I offers.
Ward is on the brink of completing his freshman year at DeMatha Catholic (Md.), but before school is out, he’s already landed on the radars of D-1 teams, with the Providence Friars becoming the latest to offer him.

This past season, at DeMatha Catholic (Md.), Ward mainly sat behind some of the more experienced players on the team. He was part of a select few to be called up to the varsity team as a freshman. When Ward was able to get his opportunity to play and contribute, his upside was evident.
At 6-foot-5, he’s only bound to grow even more. He also has a 6-9 wingspan, and this length helps him finish over defenders, create an even higher release point for a shot, or lockdown his opponent. He can throw down dunks, and he already has solid shooting range to his perimeter shots.
Providence is early to reaching Ward, but expect even more schools to catch on over the coming years.
