Hawkins is listed as a power forward, but make no mistake—he can play and guard a variety of positions. The 6-foot-9, 195 pound forward offers versatility on both ends of the court, making him an interesting prospect. He has the quickness to take on guards, if he gets switched onto one, and the size and length to guard forwards. It’s this versatility—and shooting ability—that places him in the mold of other recent Marquette players.
He has a steady three-point shot, which allows him to stretch the floor, and it’s no secret that Marquette likes its threes. Also, he’s played a point-forward role from time-to-time at Prolific Prep (Calif.), so he’s comfortable with handling the ball, taking it down court, and setting up his teammates when needed.
He currently holds offers from USC, San Diego State, Arizona, Washington State, Boise State, Rutgers, Detroit, Illinois, and Wake Forest. In the past, Hawkins has made it clear that he’s open to leaving his home state and experiencing other regions of the United States, so those midwest, east coast, and southern schools shouldn’t be shy. Marquette is just the latest to offer.
