Georgetown target Manny Bates commits to NC State

The Hoyas miss out on a Top 100 recruit.

BIG SHOTS Twitter

Top 100 2018 recruit Manny Bates committed to N.C. State on Friday. Bates, a native of Fayetteville, North Carolina, chose the Wolfpack over Georgetown. He made the announcement on his personal Twitter account.

In getting Bates, N.C. State grabs the 98th overall recruit in the class of 2018. Bates also ranks 28th at his position - power forward - and seventh among all NC recruits. He is a four-star player, listed at 6-foot-9, 195 lbs. as he enters his senior year. He attends Northwood Temple Academy and plays for Team Felton on the UAA Circuit.

He is new head coach Kevin Keatts’ first ever commit. Keatts, of course, had previously been the coach of the UNC Wilmington Seahawks. In turn, he beats out fellow first-year head coach Patrick Ewing in this recruiting battle.

For the Hoyas, this is obviously a bit of a blow. They’d gotten good news in the recruiting cycle over the past week. What with Grayson Carter committing last Saturday as well as Xavier Johnson including them in his Top 3. A commitment for Bates would’ve certainly increased optimism on The Hilltop. Alas, they will now have to look elsewhere for power forwards.
