2018 guard David Duke cuts list to five; Villanova and Providence included

The two Big East schools have been pursuing Duke for a while.

As 2018 point guard David Duke continues to shoot up recruiting ranking boards, he has narrowed his list of potential suitors to five.

Two Big East schools are in the mix, as the Villanova Wildcats and Providence Friars join Virginia Tech, Indiana, and Florida in Duke’s top five.

Both Ed Cooley and Jay Wright have quite the track record with developing point guards, something that didn’t get lost on Duke, as he had the following to say about each school

Providence: “They have recruited me very hard ever since they offered and Coach (Ed) Cooley shows a lot of respect for me and my family; he does a good job of showing me how he plans to develop me. He also has a good record of developing his guards and I love what he did with Kris Dunn."

Villanova: “Coach (Jay) Wright said that when I come in, they would have an open point guard spot, so it is a great opportunity there and it is a great school, both academically and athletically.”

Those quotes are certainly interesting for a few reasons, the least of which is Jay Wright implying Jalen Brunson won’t be at Villanova anymore after this season.

Evans also notes that while Duke doesn’t have any visits currently scheduled, he will likely look to commit before the end of the calendar year.

Duke’s Crystal Ball is currently 100% towards the Providence Friars, who already have AJ Reeves and Kris Monroe in their class of 2018.
