Two teams from the Big East are in the new AP Top 25.
The Villanova Wildcats and Creighton Bluejays are repping the conference heading into this week. The Wildcats sit fifth, while Creighton checks in at 19th, as both are featured within the Top 20.
Both teams took hits after going 1-1 this week. The Wildcats were dealt a small blow, shooting down to fifth after being third last week. ‘Nova won over Georgetown on Sunday, but were smacked by the surging St. John’s Red Storm earlier in the week. They are looking up at Gonzaga, Baylor, Michigan and Ohio State, a quartet of terrific teams. Make no mistake though, when they’re at their best, Villanova certainly belongs in this elite category.
Creighton’s blow was a bit harsher, falling down to 19th from 15th last week. The Bluejays defeated Marquette in Milwaukee by three points, but ate a loss on Wednesday to aforementioned Georgetown. The loss and the three-point win over unranked MU probably sealed their fate, but they were still able to remain within the Top 20 anyway.
Two other teams received votes this week in the poll. Xavier picked up 37 points, as they stand at ‘28th’ in the poll. Meanwhile, St. John’s’ recent run earned them some points as well. The Red Storm picked up seven points, and are ‘37th’ in the poll this week as a result.
