The Creighton Bluejays face off with the Georgetown Hoyas on Wednesday night. The CHI Health Center Omaha will play host to this early February Big East matchup, which pits two teams on two different wavelengths against one another.
The Jays have been rolling of late as they enter play Wednesday. They’re winners of each of their last three against against the UConn Huskies, Seton Hall Pirates and DePaul Blue Demons. The wins against the Pirates and Blue Demons both came on the road, as they’ve lifted their road record to 5-2 on the year thus far. They’ve been dinged up twice at home, but have gone 8-2 in their home dwelling this season.
Georgetown, meanwhile, has been sputtering. They were winners against the Providence Friars on Saturday, and that win snapped a five-game losing streak they were mired in. They have not won a game away from DC all season in their four tries on the road. Thus, they would have to buck a demoralizing trend that they’ve run up this season in order to take down the mighty Bluejays on Wednesday night.
There aren’t too many weak points that Georgetown can exploit on Wednesday. Creighton is a poor rebounding team, and that’s really about all the Hoyas can key in on from the outset. Georgetown excels at both offensive and defensive rebounding, holding percentages that rank in the Top 100 on both ends.
The issue comes with putting point son the board. Their eFG% ranks 218th in the nation and they rank 276th in 2PT FG%. They’re pretty solid at 3-point shooting, but of course, so are the Jays. In fact, Creighton ranks 2nd in Big East play in 3PT FG%, while Georgetown ranks 6th. That’s not bad, but they’ll have to keep up with the prodigious Bluejays and I’m not certain I see an angle where they can.
Then again, crazy things happen sometimes in college hoops right?
