After overcoming a 16-point deficit against the Seton Hall Pirates, the Creighton Bluejays are back in action. The Jays continue their road trip with a flight from New Jersey to Chicago, as they’ll face the DePaul Blue Demons on Saturday night.
Creighton’s win over Seton Hall was their second in a row and eighth in the last 10 games. The Jays are hot, but it is kind of wild that with all that said, they’re still three games behind Villanova in the loss column. They have an uphill battle to try and nab the Wildcats, but they’ve been playing pretty darn well over the course of the last month. Especially when you consider that their two losses to Butler and Providence were by a combined eight points. And, additionally, the loss to Marquette was by five, so they’ve only taken losses by a combined 13 points in Big East play.
The same can’t quite bye said about DePaul. After two losses by six combined points, the Blue Demons have lost by eight, seven, 12 and most recently, 13. That’s an incline you never want to ascend up, but the Blue Demons are biking up that hill much to their dismay. They picked off Marquette last Saturday, but that’s been the brightest they’ve shined all year. THey’re obviously playing a very truncated season, so games against Creighton will be of even heightened importance.
It’s pretty hard to find an angle where DePaul can beat Creighton. They can maybe slow them down on the perimeter though. They rank 39th in 3PT defense, and against a fearless Jays squad that will put the 3 up, it will be interesting to see this matchup play out. They do not possess the same kind of fire power to keep up with Creighton on offense. So their best chances of winning are to grind it out against Creighton and hope for the best, really.
