The Xavier Musketeers pulled off a stunner on Saturday, and now will look to keep the ball rolling come Tuesday. The 14-8 Musketeers, 3-6 in Big East play now after their win over the Seton Hall Pirates, will face off with the DePaul Blue Demons in Chicago on Tuesday night.
Not so long ago, DePaul was riding high. But their 12-1 start is a thing of the past now as they’ve lost eight of their last nine games. They’ve lost four in a row dating back to January 22 and already had one other four-game losing streak that started off their run through the Big East schedule. It’s been a tough ride for them to say the very least, as it always seems to be this time of year.
But they could be due for another splash, as it isn’t like they’re being uncompetitive in their games. Six of their eight Big East losses have come by single digits, their last coming to the Marquette Golden Eagles by four points. We’ll see if Tuesday provides them the opportunity to get back on track, as they’re aiming to make another run at things and attempt to net a much-needed victory.
The Musketeers’ win over Seton Hall snapped a brief two-game losing streak that came after a win over the Georgetown Hoyas on January 22. Their only other win in Big East play came against the St. John’s Red Storm back on January 5. They started off February right on Saturday, but whether they’ll be able to piece something together is yet to be seen. Their last winning streak of any kind was back from December 18-22, when they defeated Western Carolina and TCU in back-to-back games.
All told, this should be an intriguing matchup as both teams are looking to pull themselves out of the cellar in the Big East and rise up to the next tier above.
