The spotlight will be on the DePaul Blue Demons and Xavier Musketeers on Tuesday night. The Big East’s lone game will pit the 17-10 Musketeers and 14-13 Blue Demons against one another. If the season were to end today, this would be one of the two matchups occurring on Wednesday night at the Big East Tournament. But, y’know: The season is not yet over, so there’s still time for that to change.

The Blue Demons scored a much-needed win on Saturday night against the Georgetown Hoyas. The win ended a lengthy losing streak — eight games to be precise, and a run where they lost 12 of 13 games. They won 74-68 over the Hoyas, and were led by the tandem of Charlie Moore and Romeo Weems. Moore and Weems scored a combined 39 points and Weems added six rebounds, two assists and a block with no turnovers in 34minutes. He also shot 6-for-11 from the floor for an all-round rock-solid showing.

Xavier, meanwhile, fell to the Villanova Wildcats last time out. ‘Nova got out in front early and never really looked back. The Musketeers did their damnedest, especially Tyrique Jones, who scores his 19th-straight double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Naji Marshall had 15 points and eight boards, and Paul Scruggs had 10 points and eight rebounds with five assists. But turnovers wrecked them, as they committed 13, with nine alone being credited to Marshall and Scruggs.

Xavier will obviously hope to play a significantly cleaner game against the Blue Demons. Such an act could produce a win they’ll need to kick start their final four-game stretch of the season. DePaul, meanwhile, is hoping that “finish strong” mantra stays alive in their camp on the way to the end of yet another under .500 campaign in Big East play.
