In a matchup featuring two teams in the Top 5 on KenPom, the Villanova Wildcats will battle the Texas Longhorns. Thus far in the early goings, the Wildcats and Longhorns have been two of the best teams in the country. This matchup could be a damn good one if both teams play up to snuff as they are expected to.

Texas comes into this game undefeated with a 4-0 record. After taking down UT Rio Grande Valley, the Longhorns shipped up to the ‘Maui Invitational’ in Asheville. There, they defeated the Davidson Wildcats and then stomped on the Indiana Hoosiers. They then put the feather in their cap by knocking the North Carolina Tar Heels off last Wednesday. They’ve played three Top 100 teams so far and have passed every test. While the MOV has been varying, wins are wins and the Longhorns thus far have them in bunches.

Matt Coleman ought to be one to watch in this game for the Longhorns. The senior has scored in double figures in every game so far. He’s coming off a 22-point outburst against UNC, in which he shot 9-for-16 from the field. Courtney Ramey has also gotten into double figures in every game so far. While Ramey’s efficiency has been lackluster, he’s been dishing out assists at a pretty solid rate and has gotten to the line often as well.

In short, Villanova’s guards will be put to the test in this one. It’s not to say that Texas doesn’t have good wings or forwards. But their guards have been the strength of the team thus far. Justin Moore and Preseason All-Big East First Team selection Collin Gillespie will be put right to the test in this one, as will Caleb Daniels. I’d pinpoint this as the biggest matchup in this game. Whoever gets the edge here, I reckon will likely win the game outright.
