The Georgetown Hoyas and Seton Hall Pirates were both losers on a wild Sunday in Big East play. Fresh off those losses, the Hoyas and Pirates are scheduled to face off in an early evening collision come Wednesday.
Seton Hall were nipped at the buzzer by A.J. Reeves and the Providence Friars. This defeat came despite a supremely strong effort to get the game into overtime. While they crumbled, the fight was certainly very admirable. Moral victories don’t count either way though, and through this point the Pirates are a meager 5-4 on the young season. They’ve gotten great contributions out of Sandro Mamukelashvili, which comes as no real surprise. Offensively they’ve been very good, but have had some varied results on defense that have triggered this 5-4 mark on the year.
Meanwhile, Georgetown was flattened 94-83 to St. John’s following a win over the Red Storm that happened a week prior. The offensive efforts were certainly there in both games, but they weren’t able to keep the Johnnies from scoring with ease. This was a step back from their usual outings, as the Hoyas have done pretty well on the defensive side of the floor this year. It will be interesting to see if that keeps up against a Pirate team that has been pretty stout as a whole on offense. They’ve gotten a little shakier on that end after two games against the Red Storm in which they allowed 90+ points. Whether they can shore things up will likely dictate how this game plays out.
