The Marquette Golden Eagles and Seton Hall Pirates are set for an intriguing Saturday afternoon tip.
MU comes into this game with a 1-2 record in Big East play. They lost their opener to the Creighton Bluejays and then lost this past Tuesday to the Providence Friars at home. Their lone win against the Villanova Wildcats is their saving grace, as things have gone a bit rough for them thus far. They are still excellent at 3-point shooting as always, but have struggled shooting the ball inside. Defensively, they’ve played well, but have mostly failed at forcing turnovers and limiting FT chances.
Seton Hall, on the other hand, is riding high. The Pirates are 3-0, having defeated the DePaul Blue Demons, the Georgetown Hoyas and the Xavier Musketeers. They have won five games in a row in general dating back to December 19, defeating both the Maryland Terrapins and Prairie View A&M along the way. Their offense has been solid and their defense has really carried them. While they haven’t done well at limiting rebounds and free throws, they have stepped their game up both on the perimeter and in the interior, especially.
The ones to watch in this one are the stars for both sides. Myles Powell and Markus Howard have been the two best players in the Big East this year. Powell’s gone for 20+ in two of the first three Big East games of the year, and Howard has gone up for 18, 29 and 39 points in his first three conference games. This should be a fascinating battle between these two. A game within the game, if you will.
