The 9-2 Marquette Golden Eagles will seek their 10th win of the season on Saturday. The Golden Eagles, winners of their last four, face off with the Central Arkansas Bears at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee.
Central Arkansas has had it pretty rough this year. They’re 3-9 and have faced quite a lot of quality opponents. They’ve fallen to the Baylor Bears, Georgetown Hoyas, Duke Blue Devils, Wichita State Shockers and Utah Utes, among others. Four of those teams are ranked no worse than 38th on KenPom, with Duke and Baylor both currently sitting in the Top 10. The poor Bears probably want to be hibernating at this point, but they’ll face yet another stout team on Saturday in 31st-ranked Marquette.
That being said, Central Arkansas has reeled off two wins in a row. They defeated Incarnate Word 88-82 in overtime on December 18, and followed that up with a 71-67 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. So, Russ Pennell’s squad has been able to piece together something heading into this game. Whether it helps them out is yet to be seen.
MU has been doing very well lately since their loss to the Maryland Terrapins. They’ve strung together wins over the Jacksonville Dolphins, Kansas State Wildcats, Grambling State Tigers and the North Dakota State Bison. All of their victories in this four-game win streak have come by double digits, the most lopsided being their 93-72 win over Grambling State. Sacar Anim has been great during this stretch. He’s scored an average of 16 points per game in this stretch, including a 19-point showing at the beginning of it against Jacksonville. Markus Howard has been playing well also, but he obviously cannot do it alone. Let’s look for Anim to have yet another solid outing today.
