The Georgetown Hoyas are back in D.C. After a 1-1 trip up north in New York City, Patrick Ewing’s club returns to the arena formerly known as the MCI Center for a Saturday afternoon home game.
The Hoyas will welcome the UNC Greensboro Spartans to the nation’s capital. The Spartans come into this one with a 5-2 record, and already with a 1-0 record in Southern Conference play after their win over the Virginia Military Keydets. Their lone losses have come to the Kansas Jayhawks and the Montana State Bobcats, with their best win coming against the Appalachian State Mountaineers. And while their shooting leaves lots to be desired, UNC Greensboro has been very stout defensively. They have been forcing turnovers and providing a strong presence on the interior, which may make this game game against Georgetown rather interesting, given the Hoyas’ size and strengths inside.
The Hoyas are still pretty solid favorites over UNC Greensboro regardless, however. The talent discrepancy will do that, of course, and also the fact that they’ve been pretty good this year. Their loss to the Penn State Nittany Lions a few weeks ago was a bit of a hiccup yes, but they definitely looked a lot better up in NYC. They trounced a good Texas Longhorns team and played competitively for the entirety of their game against the touted Duke Blue Devils. If they can bring that same kind of intensity Saturday, then they should walk away victorious.
