Since returning from their COVID pause on February 13, the Xavier Musketeers have been plagued by inconsistency.
Xavier were riding high at 11-2 on the season before having to cease operations for two weeks, and looked to be a shoo-in for the NCAA Tournament. But, since resuming play, Xavier has gone 2-4, bringing their record to 13-6 on the season and pushing them onto the bubble.
The Musketeers still sit on the right side of the bubble entering Saturday, but a loss to the 12-13 Golden Eagles mixed with an early Big East Tournament exist could leave Xavier sweating on Selection Sunday.
Marquette’s issues have been present almost all season. The Golden Eagles have, unsurprisingly, been unable to replace Markus Howard’s offensive production and have had issues playing with second half leads, leading to an autobid or bust situation.
The first time these teams met saw one of the better games in the Big East this season, as Xavier came away with a 91-88 victory on December 20. Paul Scruggs had a season-high 29 points, while both Koby McEwen and Dawson Garcia had 20 for Marquette.
