NCAA Basketball: Creighton at Kansas Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

Down five to Kansas with around a minute to play, Creighton looked out of it. But suddenly five quick points knotted up the score at Allen Fieldhouse and it now seemed like anyones ball game. The Jayhawks responded with a clutch three and but Greg McDermott’s team had one last chance to tie up the game and set it into overtime. Marcus Zegarowski had the ball in his hands, dribbled around, and then stepped back with 1.1 seconds left to shoot a three. The ball never even made it close to the hoop. But the refs whistle blew and he had a chance to tie the game at 73 from the free throw line. The junior knocked down the first two but could only watch as his third attempt clanked off the back of the rim and out, securing a 73-72 heartbreaking loss for Creighton. It was one of the early candidates for games of the year but sadly for the Big East, their representative was on the losing side of it. Still it’s been a solid year for Creighton thus far as they now have a 4-1 overall record. Apart from their contest in Lawrence, the rest of their games haven’t even been close. Now the Bluejays will look to get back to winning ways as they face an in-state rival.

It’s been an okay beginning to the season for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. They began the season with a blowout win against McNeese State but then followed it up with a 69-66 loss to Nevada. They rebounded with two straight wins before falling in their most recent contest against Georgia Tech. The Huskers were outscored 43-34 in the second half en route to a 75-64 defeat. This was despite getting 20 points from Kobe Webster and 17 from Dalano Banton. Their record now stands at 3-2 on the year. After this contest against Creighton, who will easily be their toughest opponent so far this season, they are set to begin conference play with games against 13th ranked Wisconsin and Michigan respectively.

Meanwhile for Creighton, after Nebraska, they will be playing Marquette before traveling to New York to play against St. John’s.
