Perhaps the nicest thing about college basketball in this very bizarre year is the ability to shake off a loss and move on almost immediately. The Providence Friars were blown out by the Indiana Hoosiers on Monday. It was a poor effort all around by the Friars and they would likely rather move on from it and look to their next game.
Luckily for Ed Cooley’s bunch, they can do just that! The Maui Invitational keeps rolling along on Tuesday, as the Friars take on the Davidson Wildcats in the second round of action.
Davidson fell 78-76 to Texas in Monday’s opener, as Courtney Ramey’s layup with 20 seconds left put Texas ahead, and the Wildcats, going for the win, missed a pair of three point attempts.
At the very least, Providence should have an easier time keeping Davidson off the glass than they did Indiana. The Wildcats had just 25 rebounds against Texas, where Indiana had 42 against the Friars. Davidson had a balanced scoring attack against Texas, with four players recording double-digit scoring outputs. Sam Mennenga led the Wildcats with 17 points, Kellen Grady had 14, Luka Brajkovic had 12, and Carter Collins had 10. The Friars will have to work on defense to account for all the scoring.
